چکیده

Abstract. Let C denote the Fermat curve over Q of prime exponent l. The Jacobian Jac(C) of C splits over Q as the product of Jacobians Jac(Ck), 1 ≤ k ≤ l−2, where Ck are curves obtained as quotients of C by certain subgroups of automorphisms of C. It is well known that Jac(Ck) is the power of an absolutely simple abelian variety Bk with complex multiplication. We call degenerate those pairs (l, k) for which Bk has degenerate CM type. For a non-degenerate pair (l, k), we compute the Sato-Tate group of Jac(Ck), prove the generalized Sato-Tate Conjecture for it, and give an explicit method to compute the moments and measures of the involved distributions. Regardless of (l, k) being degenerate or not, we also obtain Frobenius equidistribution results for primes of certain residue degrees in the l-th cyclotomic field. Key to our results is a detailed study of the rank of certain generalized Demjanenko matrices.

On the Arithmetic Self-intersection Number of the Dualizing Sheaf on Arithmetic Surfaces

We study the arithmetic self-intersection number of the dualizing sheaf on arithmetic surfaces with respect to morphisms of a particular kind. We obtain upper bounds for the arithmetic self-intersection number of the dualizing sheaf on minimal regular models of the modular curves associated with congruence subgroups Γ0(N) with square free level, as well as for the modular curves X(N) and the Fe...

Bounds of Multiplicative Character Sums with Fermat Quotients of Primes

Given a prime p, the Fermat quotient qp(u) of u with gcd(u, p)= 1 is defined by the conditions qp(u)≡ u p−1 − 1 p mod p, 0≤ qp(u)≤ p − 1. We derive a new bound on multiplicative character sums with Fermat quotients qp(`) at prime arguments `. 2010 Mathematics subject classification: primary 11A07; secondary 11L40, 11N25.

On the p-divisibility of Fermat quotients

The authors carried out a numerical search for Fermat quotients Qa = (ap−1 − 1)/p vanishing mod p, for 1 ≤ a ≤ p − 1, up to p < 106. This article reports on the results and surveys the associated theoretical properties of Qa. The approach of fixing the prime p rather than the base a leads to some aspects of the theory apparently not published before.

Uniform Distribution of Fractional Parts Related to Pseudoprimes

We estimate exponential sums with the Fermat-like quotients fg(n) = gn−1 − 1 n and hg(n) = gn−1 − 1 P (n) , where g and n are positive integers, n is composite, and P (n) is the largest prime factor of n. Clearly, both fg(n) and hg(n) are integers if n is a Fermat pseudoprime to base g, and this is true for all g coprime to n when for any Carmichael number n. On the other hand, our bounds imply...
